Re: Flowcharting/UML/Block Diagrams
>Nice database as usual. can someone give me a good FREEWARE for schematic entry that I can use for journal paper writing. I use MS WORD with a library prof Baker of Boise university made using WORD. But I need something better. Any help?

You can use MS-VISIO for better schematic/Block diagram and flowchart entry.  It's a very useful, user friendly software package. You can download the trail version from Microsoft website. They are giving 60 days trail period.

"WinXP still holds more usage than Vista and Win7 combined"

Thank you for that. Is nice getting that Win7 is as good as WinXP but for me in another one year that would determine whether Win7 is better off.

Re: Free Remote Access Software

I think the above point is true only for Windows Vista, but Windows 7 is sucessful and efficient similar to WinXp. Microsoft reports Win7 is running on 93% of the new consumers PC's. WinXP still holds more usage than Vista and Win7 combined, so microsoft continues to support only WinXP SP3 and no other SP's are supported.

Re: How do these freeware guys make money
Myscope you are right. Those guys are exhibiting their skills and waiting for big money snap up. Meanwhile, some of the software get limitation and perhaps expiry dates. Once the dates lapse, users get locked out --- no option than to contact them.

Re: Free Remote Access Software
I havent used it for remote login but if actually Windows 7 do not support remote login that means little or no difference in it and Windows Vista. I think, later versions of Windows OS designed after  windows XP have been inefficient.

Free Remote Access Software
Recently I had a problem where I needed to have remote access to a computer running Windows 7 Starter. It turns out that some versions of Windows 7 do not support Remote Desktop. I found a program to use at http://www.teamviewer.com. It works great and works on different Windows platforms. It also gets around firewall and static IP issues. It is free for personal use.

BTW, yEditor is just yEd:

Very nice, though it doesn't seem able to lower itself to do a simple manual block diagram! :-)  But Open/NeoOffice can.

What are some examples of test and debug open-source software you've used?

Re: How do these freeware guys make money
Womai, if we are using it wisely, most of the free/ open source software's are at par with the commercial versions.  Most of the testing/ debugging software's which am using for the last 10 years are open source/ free versions. So far I didn't faced any major issues.

Re: How do these freeware guys make money
All the reasons stated have truth to them - advertising, luring the user into eventually buying the full version, etc. And some publish them because the potential income from a small tool does not warrant the effort to sell it but the author still prefers seeing it actively used.

But many of these free / demo version can actually do very useful work. E.g. I have used Sonnet Lite for years as a demonstration tool in my signal integrity seminars, and also solved a couple real-life problems with it at work. So this is definitely a free tool that offers true value to me.
